Surface Tension

Oil on Canvas

2 x 2.8 feet

Italy, 2019

I try to unearth the surface of things; I stand at a distance and inspect taxidermy of the avian covering the ceiling of our new home like a fortress of feather and bird bone and how texture enlivens what’s below, how the scratch makes the photograph, and if one can separate each from another. But we can’t, and it appears as one substance, one idea but to deconstruct something: atmosphere, stratosphere, thermal mechanics, skin, particles found on a camera lens, the sky itself a cover of the whole world, a blanket without a bed, a sheet even.
